The Unexpected Guests

Culture Ministry officials pay a surprise visit to the exhibition of politically provocative works.

The independent art group “Pahonia” opened the exhibition in the Art Palace in Minsk. “Pahonia” is famous for its political stand, which has never been pleasant to the regime.

Unexpectedly, the exhibition was visited by a group of officials. There was even a rumor that the Mayor himself would come in order to inspect the exhibited work.

Still, the Mayor didn’t show up. He was substituted by Uladzimir Matveychuk, Culture Minister.

The officials tried to get rid of journalists, but they showed them their entry tickets.

Ales Maratschkin, the author of the most provocative works, greeted the guests and invited them to see the exhibition. However, the officials have growled out something like “we are here only to see how the reconstruction goes” and vanished.

Most of the visitors paid attention to Marachkin’s works in the first place. They gathered near them and took pictures.

On the left you see Hitler celebrating with Stalin, on the right – horsemen in masks, closely resembling the President Lukashenka.
